ULTRA FAST CT SCAN

What is this ?

As the name suggests itself, the Ultrafast CT scan (also known as Electron Beam Tomography or EBT) has a comparatively higher tube rotation (3 rotations per second) when compared to normal CT scan (where it is almost 1 to 0.75 rotations per second). Ultrafast CT scan is generally used to diagnose cardiac diseases.

Ultrafast CT scan can take multiple images of the heart from multiple angles within the time of a single heartbeat, thus providing the doctor with details about the heart’s functions; and structure of the internal components like auricle, ventricle, aorta etc. thus considerably reducing time required for a thorough study.

Why do I need this :

While blockages of the coronary artery (Coronary atherosclerosis) are the major causes of many a death globally, it can even happen in ‘low risk’ population, even with people having no formal medical history of heart attacks. So, it is advisable to undergo an Ultrafast CT, to be on the safe side.

Due to its extremely fast operation, even routine chest and abdomen checkups can be completed within 3 to 5 seconds. So, it forms a vital part of your normal well being.

While regular CT scanning and MRI techniques cannot detect the secondary movements of the heart (as the heart is in constant motion), an Ultrafast CT poses as the foolproof method in that case.

Ultrafast CT is required to assess the condition of the coronary arteries, it is inevitable to assess heart tissue damage after a minor/ major heart attack and it can assess the openness of coronary artery bypass grafts.
