CYTOLOGY

What is this ?

Cytology refers to the branch of pathology which deals with determination and diagnosis of diseases through the examination of tissue samples in the body. It may be performed on body fluids (such as blood, urine, sputum or cerebrospinal fluids) or on the sample that is drawn out (via suction into a syringe) from the body. It can also include, but not limited to, the examination of preparations that are scraped or washed (irrigated with a sterile solution) from specific areas of the body.

Why do I need this :

Cytological tests may be recommended/ carried out for the determination and confirmation of one or more of the following:

  1. Blood in your urine.
  2. Pain during urination, or burning sensation during urination.
  3. Immune system getting suppressed due to organ transplant.
  4. Previous treatment for cervical cancer causing perils at the present.
  5. HIV infection.
  6. For the diagnosis of cancer.
  7. To determine the presence of a tumor.li>
  8. To classify a tumor as accurately as possible.

Our certified and experienced team of cytologists performs a host of functions, such as:

  1. PAP test for cervical or vaginal cancer.
  2. Cytological diagnosis of pleural fluid.
  3. Cytological diagnosis of sputum for finding cancerous and pre-cancerous elements.
  4. Cytological diagnosis of urine.

What shall I expect :

The diagnostic samples will be collected at our centre only (except the urine sample, which is generally recommended as the early morning sample.)No specific preparation such as fasting is required.

The patient will be released on the same day of sample collection and results will be informed within 48 hours.
