2D/ 4D ECHO COLOR DOPPLER

What is this ?

Color Doppler uses the principle of the variation of pitch, with the velocity of sound (ultrasound in this case) , so that 2D or 4D cross-sectional images of the beating heart can be obtained, along with the various chambers, valves, cusps and major blood vessels. When ultrasound is reflected back due to the varying physical density of cardiac components, accurate "sliced” images of the corresponding components are captured on screen so that they can be used for further assessment and interpretation.

Why I need this :

The chief aim of Echo Color Doppler is to determine heart size, myocardial infarction, congenital vascular malformation, abnormalities and leaks, how well your heart is functioning and also to assess the structure and function of the valves. Color flow mapping helps in knowing the direction of blood flow, analyzing which; vital data are obtained by our certified technologists which can further be used for your overall and long time well being.

Services offered :

Specific instructions will be given to you prior to and during the test; you may have to remove your clothing and suitable sterile and sanitized gown will be provided. After lying on an examination table, the technician will apply a water-soluble, non-staining colorless gel on your chest. The transducer will be moved back and forth across your chest to obtain several views of your heart.

During the test, you are expected to breathe slowly, or if possible to hold your breath, which helps in obtaining higher quality pictures.

The images are constantly viewed on the monitor and recorded permanently for future reference.

What shall I expect :

There are no special prohibitions or restrictions for the test, other than wearing loose cloth. Though it is advisable for patients to have an overnight fasting, or at least 6 hours of fasting in case of gall bladder or liver pathology; yet the concerned doctor should be consulted with prior to taking an appointment.

For USG pelvis and KUB, you may have to drink 6 glasses of water prior to the test, and to avoid urinating; so that the bladder is full when the imaging is conducted.
