What is this ?
Mammography, as the name suggests, implies the study or imaging of ‘mammary glands’, or breasts, through x-rays so that very early or primary signs of breast cancer can be detected, and corresponding precautions might be taken.
It is analogous to taking x-rays of the chest, but differs in the aspect that, unlike the former, mammography uses compression paddles, which are meant to compress the breasts and take sectional views of the same. But one need not be afraid as they are only soft touch compression paddles, and they automatically slow down as soon as the breasts are touched.

Mammography requires neither fasting nor any prior preparation. The radiation exposure in mammography is so less that it does not qualify as a significant threat. However, one has to ensure that one is not pregnant while the imaging is done. Besides, patients are advised not to use deodorants, talc and powder, as they can give erroneous readings.
